February 7th, 2025 4:20 PM by Sam Kader MLO130505

Analysts' mortgage rate predictions for 2025 - industry forecasts suggest that mortgage rates are expected to remain above 6% throughout 2025:

  • Fannie Mae: Projects mortgage rates closing 2025 at 6.5%, with a slight decrease to 6.3% by the end of 2026.
  • Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA): The MBA anticipates that the 30-year fixed mortgage rate will remain at or above 6.5% throughout 2025.
  • National Association of Realtors (NAR): NAR anticipates that mortgage rates will stabilize near 6% in 2025 and 2026, establishing a new normal for the housing market.
  • U.S. News: Anticipates that the 30-year fixed mortgage rate will stay in the mid-6% range throughout 2025 and 2026.
  • Selma Hepp, Chief Economist at CoreLogic, forecasts an average rate of about 6.6% in 2025, ending the year near 6.35%.
  • HousingWire: Forecasts a range between 5.75% and 7.25% for mortgage rates in 2025, acknowledging potential market volatility.
  • The Hill: Reports that multiple industry forecasts expect mortgage rates to remain above 6% in 2025.

These projections indicate that significant declines in mortgage rates are unlikely in the near future. Waiting for rates to drop substantially may result in missed opportunities for building your home equity or for savings available through refinancing at current rates.  Explore your Conventional, First-time homebuyer loan options, FHA, VA, Jumbo and Construction Loans, DSCR and Bank Statements home financing options here.
